Having been adopted as a child you never really know your true history, especially your health history. But, as luck may have it, I was able to meet my biological mother at age 20. She mentioned that on the maternal side of my family, both my grandfather and great grandfather died in their 40's of heart disease. So at least I was warned, right!?!
Having this knowledge I was immediately tested for any heart trouble (at age 20). The doctor very specifically told me that at age 36/ 37 I would most likely develop some type of heart trouble. And 16 years later (after the original testing) at age 36 I was in the Emergency Room at UCLA with chest pains. One week later I was undergoing angioplasty with 70% blockage in the front of line/ 50% blockage further down the same line.
Now living a life of many medications, I am very lucky that the technology and science is there to save so many lives (including mine).
Lesson learned: Take life one day at a time. Never take advantage of your health. And always listen to your heart, it may be telling you something!
